Blessing Your Family, Consistency
Welcome to Day 20 of our Journey through “31 Days to Bless Your Family”!
Today’s theme is Consistency.
This was advice that came to me in my early twenties from a friend, recently married, and eager to start a family. He shared with me that consistent schedule or routine and habits helped things flow better in his marriage and parenting.
This was also confirmation of something I had been observing since my childhood. Things, people (especially babies and kids), puppies (most pets), and most everything in life seem to work better with consistency.
Consistency in describing food is that which holds everything together in the state it was intended to be. And I think that consistency is intentionality put into practice. There is no better way to actually Bless Your Family than to put your intent and desires for your marriage and family into regular, consistent practice. It is what holds everything together in the state you intentionally set for it. It’s what your family can rest on.

Puppies and Babies, Beautiful Math, and Stability
It’s easy to see consistency at its best with puppies and babies. They are so cute and adorable, but without a consistent routine they are a mess, often literally. A baby’s consistent schedule helps them sleep through the night sooner, grow healthier, and learn better. Oh… yeah, puppies… puppies thrive in routine, and are more adorable because of it. More than just potty training, consistency creates what I refer to as “understanding” with our little “Tater”. It amazes me how she knows our family’s routines, her own routines and exactly when to wait by the door for momma to come home. Understanding and bonding (imprinting for dogs) happens in an environment of consistency – an environment to Bless Your Family.
On a fun tangent as I looked up consistency in Wikipedia I came across its reference as “Classical Deductive Logic… In Arithmetic and Set Theory“. I am not smart enough to be a mathematician or a scientist so that I can understand the formulas on that page, but I have always seen patterns and connections – beauty in math. Maybe it’s the poetic side of math, the creative and quantitative elements of our universe. But don’t get bored with me just yet… because there’s meaning we can gain from that page to Bless Our Families. In this understanding, consistency has “no contradiction“, it can be “modeled“, and in any situation it is considered “true“. When modeling is consistent and true it is considered “complete” and becomes part of the “proof“. Therefore…
[shareable cite=”@Eric_D_Jackson”]Consistency – the beauty in Blessing Your Family – because what you model is without contradiction, it is considered true and reliable in all situations, it is considered proof of your love, and it completes your intentional, loving efforts.[/shareable]
That is what makes consistency the necessary ingredient for stability in your marriage and your family. As you intentionally seek to Bless Your Family it will be your consistency that your mate and your children come to depend on, to rely on. They become secure in knowing and experiencing your loving behaviors and words are trustworthy, without contradiction. Sure you and I are fallible, and imperfect – we’ll make mistakes that on their own seem inconsistent. However, it is over the test of time and many situations that your family will actually “see the proof” of your heart’s desire to Bless them.
As you consider what consistency might mean in your family and the long-term benefits you can impart to your spouse and your children, is there anything that stands out or rings true for you?
What practical aspects of routine actually help prepare your loved ones for greater peace and success in their futures?
As you may have been soaking in our recent topics of Boundaries, Margin, and Consistency – how do these topics help to shape your perspectives and possible approaches to make a greater difference in the lives of your mate and your children? What impact might you begin having on them and future generations of your family to experience Blessing?
