Welcome to Day 4 of our Journey through “31 Days to Bless Your Family”!

Today’s theme is Undying Love or Unconditional Love. There is a little logic here as we flow from Getting Started, to Family Leadership, to Communication as we have set the stage for Undying Love.

If you are being intentional about Blessing Your Family, whether you are strengthening an already good position or turning a bad situation around, you have to start something new and different from what you have already been doing.

And you are going to have to be able to communicate in positive and profound ways to your family the desire and intention at the core of your very being to actually be a blessing to and for them.

All of this prepares you in your own process to begin your offering of undying love, or even unconditional love to your family. In communities of faith this might be known by the Greek word Agape Love, defining God’s perfect and unconditional love. This may seem like a tall order for us mere mortals to give, but it is possible, not impossible. Of course, God Himself can only fill the void of a person’s heart, but we are called to first experience that gift from God ourselves, and then we are called to give that gift to others. If you are first in need of God’s gift of grace and love then focus there first because that is where the difference you want to make in your family will most come from.

If you want to truly Bless Your Family, then how could anyone do more for their family than to love them with a divine, undying, and unconditional love filled with grace and peace and life? (see xxx nn:nn) It is ok if you come from a different place of belief or disbelief, and it is in my imagination possible to muster all the human love you possibly can for your family – many do, each and every day.

I am just proposing that if you could love and bless your family supernaturally, like you woke up with super powers you never had before and special gifts at your disposal, then perhaps your family is worth considering if that is possible as well?

When things go bump in the night, or just plain terribly wrong in life, it may be your undying love that can see things through. It is definitely needed, even if it is sometimes unwanted. What your family may need to know most of all is just how much you love them and accept them just as they are. They just may need to know how deeply you care about them, and that nothing in this world will take your love away. They need to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is real, trustworthy, undying and unconditional.

Undying and Unconditional Love require selflessness, sacrifice, and showing your preference to God and others above your own self interest. This doesn’t mean you don’t matter, but as a leader and a lover of your family it does mean that you are showing preference to those around you and your actions and choices are for the unity and Blessing Your Family. But that is for Day 5, Surrender to Oneness.

Sometimes relationships can be strained or distant, filled with conflict and tension. Sometimes it might be best to say it in a letter and allow time and space to heal and to forgive. Sometimes it means just saying I love you, this thing between us does not matter to me as much as you do, and I want to have a better relationship with you when things are right. You have always mattered to me.

Healthy “Boundaries” are always needed for everyone. It’s important to define what behaviors are allowed in your family, and what behaviors need to be kept outside the fence or gate.

But things don’t always go bump, and if your family is becoming more intentional about creating an environment where “The Blessing” can thrive then your unconditional love will be needed even more. Your love, especially if it is Agape Love, can help breathe life, health, strength, and purpose into your mate and into your children. Perhaps our greatest significance and legacy is what we accomplish when we pour ourselves into our mate and our children so that their lives impact the world around us for the better, and for generations to come.

Does your family know your undying and possibly unconditional love? What can you do today to express or exemplify your commitment to love them and be there for them with all that you are? What can you do to draw closer to God or even love God, and then love others with a supernatural love?
